After 20 years in tourism, as part of the team which built up the highly successful and well regarded tour company, Rabbie’s Small Group Tours, I decided the time had come to get out from behind my desk and get back to working directly with clients. So I set up Stills and Hills to concentrate on the two areas of the tourist industry which I know and love the best – whisky and walking.
I’ve been walking and climbing in Scotland since for almost 40 years and my favourite place to be is high on a mountain ridge looking out over the hills as they fade into the glow of the setting sun. That doesn’t happen on every day out but Scotland’s countryside is beautiful in all weathers – so long as you are dressed for it! As a qualified mountain leader with all the appropriate insurance and first aid certificates, you will be in safe hands on any walking trip with me.
My love of whisky had to wait until I was a bit older but I’ve been catching up ever since. Not only is whisky the ideal drink to warm you up in front of the fire after a cold day on the hills but it is very much part of the heart and soul of Scotland. A world famous export with a huge variety of tastes and flavours it also has a proud heritage and is a genuine, authentic local product. All of which makes it a fascinating part of our heritage for our guests from abroad and one that many visitors want to experience while they are here. I planned many whisky tours for clients during my time at Rabbie's and have years of expertise in putting together the ideal itinerary for both whisky enthusiasts and those wishing just a brief introduction to whisky production.
As an additional service and for those who don't have the time to take a tour I run tutored whisky tastings for any number of guests in any suitable venue. Whisky tastings are a great social event and can be tailored to suit the knowledge and budget of the group.
I hope to see you on a tour or at a tasting soon.
Warm regards
